Adventure Southland is looking for an experienced outdoor instructor to join our team in permanent full-time position.

About the Business

Based in Invercargill we are a proud Southland company, servicing all of Southland and operating throughout New Zealand. Our prime objective is to provide a first-class service in the education, social services, and industrial sectors, building programmes that meet the needs of all client groups, within a safe and friendly environment.

About the Role

No two days are the same. This role will see you passing on your passion and knowledge of a variety of adventure activities during a school camp, mentoring those enrolled in one of our social sector programmes (including work with at-risk youth, those with physical or intellectual disabilities, and young beneficiaries), facilitating corporate team building programmes, working with a range of groups on our Challenge Ropes Course, and more.

Your hours will usually be 40 per week, Monday to Friday, and may occasionally include rostered weekend work. The position involves significant time away from home for parts of the year, and the expectation that you will instruct at a range of locations across Southland and Otago.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with experience in a similar role, who is confident working both individually and as part of our team to facilitate programmes and manage risks. You should have proven experience and understanding of education in the outdoors, working with youth, and instructing a range of activities (bush, rock, kayak, caving, ABL etc).

To be successful in this role, you will need to be flexible and adaptable, patient, have a friendly attitude and genuine enthusiasm for the outdoors, and be a committed member who fits well with our small team. You should display excellent facilitation and communication skills and be able to use initiative and solve problems.

You will have a minimum of the following, with flexibility for the right person;

  • x1 NZOIA Leader (or equivalent) Qualification – Bush, Rock, Abseil, Kayak, Sea Kayak
  • Hold a full, clean NZ (or valid overseas) driver’s licence with P-Endorsement
  • Current First Aid Certificate

You will have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa, and must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test and Police and Caregiver vetting.

Please note: This position is a Children’s Worker (Core Worker) as defined in the Children’s Act 2014, and as such applicants for this position will need to return a satisfactory result for all safety checks as required by the Act.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to showcase your skillsets, and positively impact the youth of Southland!
