Adventure Southland is looking for an experienced Rope Access Technician/Industrial Trainer to join our team.

About the Business

With a background in adventure activities, we specialise in a wide variety of rope access and confined space work, as well as delivering practical height safety and confined spaces training.

While based in Invercargill, our trainers regularly travel across New Zealand sharing their knowledge of industry standards and utilising their expertise and experience to deliver practical, relevant training that will give workers the skills and confidence to complete the job safely.

About the Role

No two days are the same. Whether it’s on the ropes or in the classroom, you will be using your skills to work as part of our rope access team.

You will be working at range of locations throughout the South Island, providing our clients with access solutions for work at height and in confined spaces, or completing tasks with challenging access, including window cleaning, gutter cleaning, and general plant maintenance.

You will have a sound knowledge of a range of industry-standard equipment and be able to recommend and inspect gear for our clients.

During training courses you will be passing on your passion and knowledge of height safety and confined spaces, with a focus on application of practical skills to ensure clients are able to work safely.

A willingness to use transferable rope skills to assist within our recreation division would be a bonus.

Your hours will usually be 20-30 per week (with potential for future growth), Monday to Friday, and may occasionally include rostered weekend work. The position will include some time away from home.

Skills and Experience

We are looking for someone with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role, or someone who is a quick learner. You should be confident working both individually and as part of our team to solve problems and complete set tasks to a high standard.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a high level of physical fitness, attention to detail, be flexible and adaptable, and be a committed member who fits well with our small team.

You should be able to use initiative and be quick to pick up new practical skills.

You will have the following, with flexibility for the right person;

  • Industrial Rope Access, Height Safety and Confined Space Qualifications
  • Unit Standard 29766 – A Class Friable Asbestos Removal  or equivalent (preferred)
  • Unit Standard 4098 – Use standards to assess candidate performance (preferred)
  • Confident using hand and power tools
  • Hold a full, clean NZ (or valid overseas) driver’s licence
  • First Aid Certificate (PHEC preferred)

You will have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa, and must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol test and police vetting.

Please note: As our organisation also works with children, applicants for this position will need to return a satisfactory result for all safety checks required by the Children’s Act 2014.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right person to challenge themselves and grow in the industry.
